In this situation, I drill the hole into the wall and put a piece of copper into the plasterboard until it hits the blockwork. If you feel the drill bit hitting blockwork within about 20-30mm of the wall surface, then it’s probably dot & dab. If the drill bit doesn’t hit anything, other than possibly insulation, then it’s probably a stud wall. WebStep 4. Mix sand and cement in a wheelbarrow in the ratio of 4:1.
